  • An abandoned sled road in the Flume Brook drainage in Lincoln, New Hampshire during the autumn months. This sled road begins off of George Johnson’s (Johnson Lumber Company) main sled road, and travels into the Mount Flume valley. Up until the early 1970s (1971-1972), the lower section of the Flume Slide Trail utilized this sled road. George Johnson’s (Johnson Lumber Company) main sled road was used to log the eastern side of Franconia Notch. It began in the general area of Johnson's Lumber Mill in North Lincoln, traveled along the eastern hillside of Franconia Notch, and ended in Walker Ravine.

  • A stretch of the Mt Tecumseh Trail in New Hampshire covered in leaf drop. A herd path is forming in the woods on the right-hand side of the trail from hikers bypassing this section of trail work. If this area isn’t blocked off, over time, a herd path will form and potentially create more erosion issues. And this defeats the purpose of the trail stonework.

  • March 2012 - Cut brush dropped on the side of the Mt Tecumseh Trail in the New Hampshire White Mountains. In 2011, Tropical Storm Irene washed out part of the trail, and this is the rerouted section. Proper protocol is to pick up all branches and debris and scatter them off the trail with the cut ends facing into the woods away from the trail. Update 2017: After 5-6 years, this pile of brush has finally been picked up and properly scattered off the trail per basic trail maintenance guidelines.
