  • Mount Washington from the Jewell Trail in the White Mountains, New Hampshire.  The Jewell Trail is named for Sergeant Winfield S. Jewell. He was an Army Signal Corps observer on Mount Washington from 1878-1880. And on April 12, 1884, while on the Greely expedition to the Arctic, Jewell died of starvation. Out of the 25 men on the three year Greeley expedition (1881–1884), only six survived.

  • This is the landslide path just above the Willey Boulders in Crawford Notch in Hart’s Location, New Hampshire. The Willey Boulders saved the Willey House from destruction on August 28, 1826 when a massive landslide came down Mount Willey. These boulders were located just above the house and caused the landslide to split into two debris flows around the house. The house was said to be untouched, but all seven members of the family and two hired men perished in the slide while trying to escape to a safe area.

  • A plastic PVC pipe and metal tag in an old landslide path on the western flank of Mount Lafayette in Franconia Notch, New Hampshire. This landslide slid in 1948 and in 1959, and this pipe and metal tag are possibly remnants of an old study that was done on the landslide. The study focused on the forests recovery from landslides.

  • Remnants of the ice house and stone wall that was built at Ice Pond near Camp 7 of the East Branch & Lincoln Railroad in Lincoln, New Hampshire. During the logging era, large blocks of ice were cut from this pond and used in iceboxes (early refrigerators). The ice blocks were stored at the Camp 7 ice house and some stored in the ice house at the company store in Lincoln Village.

  • May 2015 - A tree wound on a yellow birch tree along the Mt Tecumseh Trail in New Hampshire. Proper trail blaze removal protocol was not used when a painted trail marker (blaze) was removed from this tree, and this is the ending result. The blaze was painted on the tree in 2011, and then improperly removed from the tree in the spring of 2012. The bark, where the blaze was, was cut and peeled away creating a tree wound.

This tropical storm caused destruction along the East coast of the United States and the White Mountain National Forest of New Hampshire was officially closed during the storm.

  • Diana's Baths in Bartlett, New Hampshire USA during the spring months. Diana's Baths is a series of small cascades located on Lucy Brook. Remnants of the old 1800s “Lucy's Mill” can be found in this area. The Lucy family owned this sawmill, and they abandoned it in the 1940s.

  • Remnants of the old Crib Dam (also may have be known as the Diversion Dam) on the East Branch of the Pemigewasset River during the spring months in Lincoln, New Hampshire. This dam was one of at least four dams on the East Branch of the Pemi during the Lincoln mill era. And this one was used to control water flow into the mill pond. Most of these timbers were washed away and / or buried during Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.
