Scenic view down the Pemigewasset Valley from the summit of Mount Pemigewasset in Lincoln, New Hampshire during the winter months, just before sunset. Route 93 is in view. The name origin of Mount Pemigewasset is unclear. It may have been named for the Pemigewasset River, an Abenaki word meaning “swift current,”. It could also have been named for Chief Pemigewasset; legend is that Chief Pemigewasset used the summit of Mount Pemigewasset as a lookout for enemies. Dating back to the mid-1800s, some form of a trail has led to the summit of Mount Pemigewasset.
