In operation from 1879-1921, the Profile and Franconia Notch Railroad was built as a narrow-gauge line, but it would be converted to a standard gauge line. This roughly ten-mile long railroad serviced only the Profile House in Franconia Notch. It began in Bethlehem along the Boston, Concord & Montreal Railroad (Boston & Maine Railroad) at Pierce’s Bridge and traveled south for just under ten miles, ending at the Profile House.
