(10 images)
Jefferson Notch Road was built in 1901-1902, and the purpose of this road was to connect the old Crawford House with Jefferson Highlands. Built in two sections, the north division was Jefferson to the Mount Washington Turnpike, near the site of the old Twin River Farm. And the south division (Mt Clinton Road) was from Twin River Farm to Crawford Notch Road, near the Crawford House. The highest elevation reached by a public highway in New Hampshire is along Jefferson Notch Road.
